Big Picture Page

The Sedona Excentric looks at the growing number of "biker bars" in and around Sedona. While the baby boomer population continues to increase and their desire for independence remains strong, their reflexes and vision slowly wane. Not wanting to give up their need for speed and the feel of wind flapping their cheeks, Sedona seniors are still taking to the streets al fresco. Always looking to wet their whistle and rinse the bugs from their teeth, boomer bars are opening where boutique retail establishments once covered the rent. Riders, who once bragged of riding a Shovelhead, Indian Chief or Sportster, are now talking trash about their Avenger, Destiny, Victory and the fact that Medicare picked up the tab. Bartenders at the original local popular watering hole, Oak Creek Brewery are now cutting off these aging road warriors after two pints or calling them a cab after taking away their remote control starter switches.

Typical Excentric Reader

This month’s Typical Excentric Readers are a group of loyal and dedicated Excentric fans assembled at Marble Canyon by Pietro LoParco, shown here holding a copy of his favorite publication. Other devotees in the photo include (left to right) Jeff Dolan, Sam & Suzanne Dolan, World Famous Artist Susan Kleiwer (see SedonaArtsCenter.com), Lori Jondahl, Pietro, Katie & Josh Wheller. The dog's name is Cookie. The baby was not named to protect its innocense. Lees Ferry will never be the same.

The humble greatness of seemingly ordinary men
is often forgotten in the hum-drum of every day life.
